Sunday, June 16
"Johnson Camp is Rock'n'roll Camp ...!" yells a heavily inebriated Slovenian, shortly after daybreak, making it clear to the surroundings that the hoopla that broke out by the group of Slovenian tents shortly before midnight certainly will not end with the coming of dawn. The night was again very warm and the fish in the Soča River this time took to smoked Edam cheese as the best bait. In light of the possible fine in the amount of 600 Euro for one caught fish, the camp population has already, without a doubt, made a significant hole in Slovenian national budget.

For reasons of prevention the heavy military trucks drop off the pilots this morning at the end crest area and they must make their way on foot to the starting ground. The hot, humid and sticky air creates a mist so thick that not even the camp is visible from the starting ground. The quicker ones immediately occupy places in the shade.

Pilots on the top of Kobala hill

Because the probability of storms is higher today than yesterday, the organizers announce a 55km long discipline with seven turning points in total, but the opening of the start window is postponed indefinitely. At 12:15, at another briefing the opening of the window is announced for 12:30. Following fifteen minutes of struggling in the air, the four pilots slowly and patiently rise to a workable altitude over the start, and the rest follow.

 Window is open

Even if time today is measured individually for each pilot, it's necessary to start on time. In the event of storms en route the organizers will end the round and only the distance gained by a pilot up to that time will count. There's really nothing to wait for today.

 Taking off

Dark bases lie at approximately the same altitudes as yesterday, but thermals are harder to find. The critical point proves to be the cleverly chosen fifth turning point, which is the broadcaster on Kuk mountain which, in order to be reached, requires jumping over to the opposite side of the valley. Even if though the circles of flight around it have a wide diameter, an even kilometer, almost 30 pilots end their flight here. And so, accompanied by the occasional sound of thunder, the first racers fly over the goal line into the hot cauldron of the local stadium.

 Ondrej Dupal is landing

Only 12 racers get points for making the goal though, because today's round was pre-maturely called to an end, as was anticipated, due to storms, and several pilots had not yet reached the goal when this happened. This immediately caused dramatic changes in the overall placing. Slovenian favorite, Jurij Vidic, jumped to the forefront of the race, Norman Lausch dropped to second place, and Ondřej Dupal placed third with the second best time. And six Czech hotshots pushed their way into the top ten, including the Czech-speaking Michal Orolin.
