Friday 23.7.04
'Don't sip! Don't you know it's impolite?!' one of "the young and hopeful" catches a pedagogical slap from "the old and hopeless" just now and there is a bright and sunny day outside the windows of Penzion Kukacka as if it didn't rain yesterday at all. Compared to yesterday a temperature fell markedly and even if a wind has changed to the north all competitors depart to spend this afternoon on the southern hand side of Cerna hora hill.

'I'm afraid we put on completely wrong clothes today,' some of pilots, wearing shorts, submit and stare at an overcast sky above Cerna hora hill, which top is hopelessly obscured by clouds. It seems to be imprudent to go up the hill by a cableway and about thirty pilots begin to lounge at a car park. Finally after two hours of a long waiting an upper station of a cable way unveils and competitors go up at 1 p.m. However benches and a buffet near Sokolska bouda in a height of cloudbases look much better and who doesn't like a hot goulash soup discusses a grilled sausage or an ice lolly. Some of nameless trencher-men mix all together.

The small buffet is almost sold out one hour later and competitors move to a taking off area. Low-lying clouds fly over the hill from nortwestern hand side and there is almost no wind on the southern slope. A very short task is proclaimed after all at 3.15 p.m. It spans two turning points Dolni Dvur and Trutnov. The task goal is located at 27th kilometer in Pilnikov village this time.

Eventually Mira Oros begins to rise up to the overcast sky at 3.40 p.m. after several unsuccessful pilots took off and the others follow him immediately. A cloudbase hangs only 200 meters above taking off point and a flying to the first turning point in a distance of four kilometers will become a very difficult tease.

'Don't tell impertinent words,' I have to warn Renata Kuhnova, a Champion of Czech Republic, who falls in a front roll under the taking off point near my legs just now and giggles amusingly. A wind is very weak and that's why the others have the same problems to take off. Even the well known sportsman and a proclaimed athlete Radomir Vyhlas seems to be rather slow and he finishes his rush with twisted lines in a low vegetation.

Fourteen competitors only succeed in reaching the first turning point but they have to land gradually under Cerna hora hill on the way back. Trio Radomir Vyhlas, David Ohlidal and Jan Kupka reached the 9th kilometer and they shared a victory of the today's task.

There are no changes in the first three positions of a total ranking after today's discipline but Peter Vrabec and Martina Pospisilova swaped the fourth and the fifth position each other. The question of tomorrow's last competitive day is open for the present. It'll depend on a moving of the atmospherical front, which comes slowly from Germany to Czech Republic.
