Thursday 12.05.05
"Neither from a wagon nor on it," one of Slovak pilots values the sky which is covered with clouds completely and I have to admit I don't understand clearly what he means by that. Anyway, the situation looks suitable neither for flying nor for a canceling this day. Russian pilots are taking off from the northwest ski slope with enthusiasm before nine o'clock. By the way, the ski slope will be ready this winter and a ski tow as well.

After two hours of waiting and an inconsistent messages from a neighbourhood a 31.9km long task is declared one past noon at last. The task includes just one turning point Kumeradsky castle near Rajec village. The second and unreal leg of the route ends in a goal in Pruzina village.

A fear of weak conditions and a waiting is finished by Robert Kaucarik shortly after the start window opening. After a vain searching for a thermal activity above the west slope he begins to rise above the south edge of a saddle. A wave of quick takes-off follows and a group of more than 30 pilots reaches a cloudbase at a height of 1700 meters. They fly out in a sideway wind to the south towards the first turning point afterwards.

The northwest wind grows stronger gradually and pilots, who take off later, turn thermals far to the east side of Stranik. Crossing Vah river from this position against the wind entails a huge loss of height and altogether 30 of pilots are forced to land on the eighth kilometer near Stranavy village and around it.

"The last ten minutes, sirs!" announces the organizer Juraj Kleja and the west taking off area seems to be very small suddenly. Especially when Radek Vecera and Marcel Konecny block a taking off by pretended twisting of their lines and they try to freeze out rivals without any doubt. Mug's game, nobody can't reach the important distance of fifty kilometers and thus the task can't be valid unfortunately.

An imaginary winner of today's task is Miroslav Stehula who landed with Peter Vrabec, Stefan Vyparina, Jaroslav Janduch, Tomas Lednik and David Ohlidal on the 13th kilometer even before reaching the first turning point. There are no changes in overall results after this day.

Meteorologists promise better weather for tomorrow but the worst for the next days. We will see.
