 A view from Stol

Tuesday 05.09.06
Although the sun was covered in the morning, clouds melted after a short time. A sunny day with the clear sky started then and the visibility was excellent. It seems the long task is going to be declared.

Our predictions came true. The task N2 was declared over four turning points and its length was 105 kilometers. The goal is located in Podbela village right under Stol hill. Also dinner for all pilots will be prepared there at 6:30 p.m.

"The task is long, it leads over huge hills and there are some traps there. The last turning point will be crunch one perhaps," David Ohlidal values the route. Tomas Brauner claims the task as "fucky tricky" one.

Pilots started their taking off at 1:10 p.m. and first of them landed in the goal only five hours later. The first leg to Polovnik ran as usual but to rise up in front of Krn was very difficult for some of pilots.

 An analysis of the task

A leading group separated in that area at the moment. The long fast flight along the ridge began then and back to Krn after that. Bovec was the next turning point which decided everything today. There were several ways. David Ohlidal chose that longer one over Polovnik. Most of pilots took a risk and flew through "the mouse slit" between Polovnik and Krn. Those ones, who succeeded in it, gained a hell of a lot of time.

Only nine pilots reached the goal at last. The winner of today's task is Kaoru Ogisawa from Japan, Christian Maurer from Switzerland is the second and the home Urban Valic finished as the third. In the total ranking of the competition Kaoru Ogisawa leads, leaving Valics brothers behind.

And now one black curiosity. Two pilots clashed on the route back to Krn. They twisted together, threw their spares and landed high on the rocks. Fortunately, nobody was injured, only both of them had to take a long walk down.
